The Basics of Marketing Your Home

Listing your home in the Multiple Listing Services (MLS) is just the first step in marketing your home to potential buyers.

Advertising is one of the key components in getting a house sold. Traditionally Real estate agents used newspapers, magazines and other print methods to market a home. Nowadays real estate agents use the Internet, television and even radio to market your house. However in these days of new technology, don’t forget the simple for sale sign on the front lawn, as this is still an excellent way to attract interest in your property.

Having an open house is also a great way to get people interested in purchasing your property; even neighbors should be invited as they may have relatives or friends who are looking to move into the area.

You should always prepare for an open house by making the mood light and cheerful. Clean up thoroughly and arrange to be out of the house during the viewing, as the owners being there can put people off; as they can’t snoop around and look in cupboards etc. Lighting candles, baking some cookies and opening curtains, drapes and other simple things can improve the mood of your home.

If your house has been on the market for some time it might be a good idea to reduce the price, as people are obviously unwilling to pay what you are asking for.

If you are moving into a new home after you have sold your old one, seeking the services of a title company, or lawyer to smooth out the details can also be a benefit to you.
