Real Estate Irondale - AL
Irondale Real Estate Information

In the scenic north-central Alabama valley, the thriving community of Irondale is a picturesque city that faces the magnificent Red Mountain to the north and the Cahaba Mountain to the South. Truly a site to behold, Irondale is steeped with a rich heritage but is also a progressive leader in the “Yellowhammer State” of Alabama.

Irondale was born because of the railways which delivered workers to a rich mining area just outside of Birmingham. The community was named after a nearby furnace known as the Cahaba Iron Works, which the local residents referred to as Irondale. The furnace was used to manufacture pig iron, which would go on to be used for the Confederate Army’s artillery. The city’s proud history is celebrated annually with the Whistle Stop Festival. Today, Irondale has grown quite considerably since the pre-Civil War days. Although mining activities are still ongoing, the community has branched out its economic base, and today is home to over 500 businesses.

Irondale is part of Jefferson County and has a population of approximately 10,000 people. The city is only a short 5-mile trip southwest to the City of Birmingham – which provides this city with big-city conveniences and attractions. The state capitol of Montgomery is a 90 mile trip south, and the City of Atlanta is 100 miles to the east.
