Local legend has it that a postmaster tiring from writing Smiths Station simply began to write Smiths as the name of its community. As a result, most people refer to Smiths Station as Smiths.

Located near the Alabama-Georgia border, Smiths is full of residents that take the philosophy of Southern hospitality to heart.
