The principal part of the land within Alhambra's present boundaries was included in a 1771 grant made to Mission San Gabriel, five years before the birth of our nation. There were no orchards or vineyards in San Gabriel Valley then, only dry un-cultivated fields broken by arroyos and low-lying hills from the Mission San Gabriel west to the small Indian village called "Yang-na," which later become Los Angeles.
In 1915, Alhambra became a chartered city. By 1910, the population grew to 5,000 and by the end of the 1930's, population was nearly 40,000. Today Alhambra is a sophisticated city with a large Chinese population. It is one of the most eclectic and diverse areas in all of California. The population is now up to 91,000 and enjoys a strong economy and residency that is growing rapidly, making the demand for real estate and development.
