The City of Lawndale is located in Los Angeles County, California. It was one of the last cities to be incorporated in the county, in 1959. The city is located less than 5 miles away from the Pacific Ocean, and about 20 miles from the heart of Los Angeles. The city has a total population of approximately 33,000 people.

Lawndale grew as an agricultural center until it became incorporated. Those were trying times as the city was struggling with having a rural setting amidst the rapid commercial growth and urbanization of the Centinela Valley. However, Lawndale is today a thriving community with a pro-business environment. Many of the city's residents commute out of the city for work. Over 20% of the city’s labor force are employed in managerial/professional jobs; 30% are employed in sales and office positions, and 10% are employed in construction, extraction, maintenance positions.

The city has a diverse and vibrant population with the majority of people being Hispanic - close to 60% of the population. Many other ethnic cultures are found here, and the city is proud that everybody coexists peacefully and productively. In fact, Lawndale's community is amongst the friendliest in the county, as people new to the area are welcomed with open arms.
