Known as the Salad Bowl of the World due to the fact that the city grows more produce than any other county in the U.S., Salinas has a long and storied history that can be traced back to its existence as a part of Mexico.

Named after the Spanish term for salt marsh, as a large slough ran through the area at the time, Salinas city was born after the area had seceded to the United States.

This legacy as an agricultural haven of America undoubtedly influenced its most recognizable citizen, the author, John Steinbeck whose book The Grapes of Wrath is easily one of the greatest novels produced in America.

With a total population that was recorded as 151,060 in the 2000 census, Salinas is one of California's fastest growing cities. With increasing infrastructure being developed to diversify its economy, Salinas is one of America's fastest growing cities.
