San Bernardino Real Estate Information The county seat of San Bernardino County in sunny California, San Bernardino is the eighteenth largest city in the Golden State. Dubbed a city on the move in the 1970s, San Bernardino has a long and colorful history that makes it one of the most unique cities to live in all of California.
Although you may know San Bernardino by its nickname, San Berdoo, it is highly recommended that you don't use this term within this city, as residents don't appreciate that term. At the time of the 2000 census, it was reported that San Bernardino was the home to 185,401 residents. This number is sure to have increased due to the amount of development that has occured in recent years in the city that is sometimes known as Gate City.
Named in 1810 San Bernardino by Father Dumetz as a form of respect to the feast day of St. Bernardine of Siena, this Californian city was once a Mexican colony. However, after California was given over to American control, a mormon colony was founded in 1851 at the site of this city.
Although there isn't as high as a religious influence in this safe and highly developed city, San Bernardino is best known as the site of the first McDonald's Restaurant. Established by the McDonald Brothers in 1940, San Bernardino was also the city where the Hells Angels, an outlaw motorcycle club, first formed, which they did in 1948.
