A community in every sense of the word, the City of La Junta has a storied history which its residents greatly cherish. Meaning “Meeting Place” in Spanish, La Junta has been exactly that, serving as an important location for early fur trade, and then as an important junction for the railways and surrounding ranches and farms.

Today, this thriving southeastern Colorado community is flourishing as the city is rapidly expanding. Located near the banks of the Arkansas River, La Junta is part of Otero County, where it also serves as county seat. Home to a diverse mix of approximately 11,000 people, La Junta is about 50 miles east of Pueblo and 80 miles from Colorado Springs.

La Junta rapid expansion can be credited to its strong and escalating economic productivity. Many of the city’s businesses are located in an innovative master-planned industrial park that also features recreational and transportation enterprises. The centerpiece of the park is a difficult golf course that Golf Traveler Magazine commented as “having the toughest roughs in the world”. The massive park also features a raceway and rodeo grounds.

Other features of La Junta includes being home to the Otero Junior College, the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, and many shopping districts. Other attractions include Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, Koshare Indian Dancers and Museum, Otero Museum, and nearby Boggsville Historic Site.
