Because of its location, Groton has a long sea-faring history. It was an important strategic area during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and today, it is thriving thanks to its strong shipbuilding industry. In addition, Groton serves as headquarters for the Electric Boat Corporation. It is this company that is responsible for manufacturing submarines and boats for the US Military.
