The City was discovered in 1539, by Hernando DeSoto when he landed on Shaw's Point to begin his 4,000 mile trek in search of El Dorado, "the lost city of gold." Each spring Bradenton commemorates his landing with a month-long celebration called "The Florida Heritage Festival."

Bradenton, Florida does have gold however: its golden sand and the golden sunset are an example of what you can expect to see in this tropical paradise. Originally known as the Village of Manatee, Bradenton is the largest Manatee County city, with a population of approximately 50,000.
