The Sunshine State is full of many interesting and unique cities but none may be as interesting as Clearwater. Located in Pinellas County, where it holds the county seat, Clearwater has had a long and rich history that sets it apart from other interesting Florida cities.

For years best known as a resort community, Clearwater is known for its socially progressive attitude and beautiful landscape. The majority of the city's residents love living in an atmosphere that can only be described as a tropical paradise that is still rooted in American culture and values.

Settled by colonists in the mid-1830s, Clearwater obtained its name due to the abundant fresh springs located along its shore. Despite its excellent landscape, it was not until the 1890s that Clearwater began to gain to its reputation as a resort hot spot.

However, Clearwater is not simply a getaway for tourists and retirees. Rather it is one of the fastest developing cities in all of Florida. Additionally, Clearwater has the distinction of being the worldwide spirtiual headquarters of the Church of Scientology. Known by Scientologists as Flag Land Base, Clearwater has many amenities that makes this city so unique. One such project is a high-rise complex known as the Super Power Building with a huge Scientology Cross at the top of its structure that will tower over Clearwater. Tom Cruise would approve.
