In 1911, the Lake Wales Land Company purchased a large tract of land comprising 5,000 acres in central Florida around Lake Wailes. The incentive behind buying the land was the land’s abundant natural resources – fertile soils and abundant pine forests. These industrious individuals set forth to establishing a community that became known as Lake Wales. Lake Wales became incorporated as a city in 1921.

True enough, Lake Wales natural resources allowed the community to thrive. The citrus and timber industries have fueled the local economy eversince the community was established. Today, Lake Wales continues to thrive branching out to house other industrial endeavors. The city’s 165-acre Longleaf Business Park is home to a variety of businesses that supports electronics, retail-trade, and light manufacturing. With its central location and business friendly environment, more and more businesses are being lured to Lake Wales.

Located in Polk County, Lake Wales is set amidst beautiful scenery encompassing countless lakes. Never too far from the big city, Lake Wales is just 40 miles east of Tampa and 55 miles south of Orlando. There is plenty of things to see and do around the area whether its spending a quiet day on the water fishing (pick a lake), marveling at the botanical splendors of Bok Towers, or just hanging out in the city’s inviting downtown district.
