Alpharetta Real Estate Information From the north Georgia mountains to the Chattahoochee River along a Cherokee Indian trail, a tiny village named New Prospect Camp Ground was formed. This village, made up of tents, a log school, and arbor became a trading post where Indians and white settlers exchanged their goods.
The surrounding countryside provided excellent farming land, especially for cotton. On December 11, 1858, the town was chartered and became the county seat of Milton County. The town was renamed Alpharetta from the Greek words "alpha" meaning first and "retta" meaning town. In 1932, Milton County was merged into Fulton County.
Since 1980 the City's population has increased from around 3,000 residents to over 35,000. Alpharetta's population in 2000 accounted for approximately 18% of the total population of North Fulton. In January 2004, the City of Alpharetta’s estimated population had swelled to 37,027. Based on current growth trends, by the year 2005, Alpharetta is expected to have nearly 40,000 citizens.
And if you like to golf, Alpharetta has some of the finest manicured golf courses in all of the state. And believe me, there are a lot of great golf courses in Georgia.
