Atlanta Real Estate Information Atlanta is the capital city, and largest city in the state of Georgia. It has a rich history that culminated in it being burnt down during the civil war. Hence, Atlanta is sometimes referred to as the phoenix city, from its rise from the ashes. Since being rebuilt after the Civil War, downtown Atlanta has been transformed by waves of development and is now a thoroughly modern metropolis. It is also known as the Capital of the South, due to its focus on commerce and role as birthplace to civil rights leaders. Atlanta has benefited in recent years from a booming economy, the 1996 Olympics and a baseball dynasty. The city is home to such attractions as Grant Park, Sweet Auburn, and professional sport teams the Hawks (basketball), Falcons (football), Thrashers (hockey), and Braves (baseball). Atlanta continues to attract masses of people to its sprawling metropolis. Atlanta is often described as a 'city of neighborhoods' each having its own distinct personality making the city wondefully eclectic and diverse. Such unique neighborhoods include Buckhead, Grove Park, Cabbagetown, College Park, Inman Park, Fairlie-Poplar, and College Park, just to name a few.
