Located in midwest Georgia by the Alabama state lines lies the historic military outpost of Fort Benning, the world's largest infantry training center. Situated in Chatttahoochee County along the beautiful Catchattahoochee River and adjacent to the City of Columbus, Fort Benning covers 181,000 acres of river valley terraces and rolling terrain that supports an estimated population of 33,000 people.

With land, buildings and improvements valued well over $320 million, Fort Benning contributes over $55 million per month to the local economy in payroll and disbursements. Fort Benning is also part of the Tri-Community that also consists of Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. This Tri-Community is an economically prosperous region with thriving diverse industries. Total Systems Services, AFLAC Insurance Company, Carmike Cinemas, W.C.Bradley Co. have made their headquarters in nearby Columbus. A strong agricultural sector characterizes Phenix City.

Plenty of recreational and cultural opportunities abounds in the Tri-Community. Outdoor enthusiasts are presented with the popular Destin Recreational Area, Uchee Creek, Chattahoochee River, and thousands of acres of park land for camping, fishing, and hiking. For cultural and historical buffs, there is the National Infantry Museum and Columbus Museum, one of the largest art museums in the Southeast.
