Named for Revolutionary War hero, sergeant John Newton, this historic region still draws residents and visitors to see all of the great sites and participate in making Newton County even better than it already is.

The Creek Indians ruled the land of today’s Newton County until 1813 when Governor Thorp negotiated a treaty in which the Creeks gave up their claim to the land. A decade later the last of the Creek Indians were banished to Oklahoma over the "Trail of Tears."

Today, Newton county is a diverse and welcoming community of fine individuals looking to lend a helping hand or offering a smile. The county is just 35 miles east of Atlanta.
