Schofield Barracks Real Estate Information Schofield Barracks is the largest United States Army base in the state of Hawaii. Also its own census-designated place, Schofield Barracks is located in the City and County of Honolulu. It is situated in the Wahiawa District of the island of O‘ahu. Schofield Barracks occupies some 17,725-acres on Central O'ahu.
As of the 2000 census, Schofield Barracks had a total population of 14,428 military personnel and families.
The base was named after John McAllister Schofield, a man who was sent to Hawaii in 1872 as Secretary of War for President of the United States Andrew Johnson, and recommended the establishment of a naval base at Pearl Harbor. The base was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island.
