The "Big Island" of Hawaii, the largest and most southern of the islands of Hawaii is the home for the community of Waimea. The Big Island is regarded as the most pristine and rugged of Hawaii's four major islands, and Waimea lays right at the heart of this spectacular island.

Waimea is part of Hawaii County and is the most northern major community on the island's main highway (State Highway 19/11). Waimea has an estimated population reaching 8,000 people. The other major communities found on Waimea are Hilo, Mountain View, Kalaoa, Kailua (county seat), and Captain Cook.

Hawaii has long been considered the stereotypical island paradise, with the always perfect sunny climate, breathtaking beaches complimented by lush tropical forests, and super friendly locals. If these are your expectations, then you won't be disappointed. In fact, that may be a simplified description of Hawaii, and particularly Waimea.

A stunning city with many historical and geographical complexities, Waimea is more than just part of your typical island paradise. Waimea is situated in the foothills of the striking Kohala Mountains, and the closest route to the Pacific coast is a 10 minute drive to Waikui along Highway 19.
