Located in south central Idaho along the meandering Snake River, the City of Burley straddles the border between Cassia County and Minidoka County. It is part of Cassia County, where it also serves as county seat, although part of the city extends north into Minidonka County. The northern state line of Nevada and Utah is found just 30 miles south from the city, and the state capitol of Boise is about 130 miles northwest along the I-86.

Agriculture is the main economic activity in Burley and surrounding areas. Much of Idaho’s famed potato production is derived from this area. The city’s major employer is McCain Foods, the potato-processing giant and fries manufacturer, who employ over a thousand residents here. Other major employers include Cassia School District, Cassia Regional Medical Center, and Boise Corporation.

Burley has played a pivotal role in America’s history. The area was a frequently passed through by many pioneers who made the journey to the undeveloped Western frontier. The famous Oregon and California Trails passed through the Burley area along with at least thirty other pioneer trails. David E. Burley founded the community of Burley around 1905.

A great location for recreational activities, Burley serves as a launching pad to some of the most spectacular natural attractions in the state.
