Picturesque Idaho remains a favorite amongst those seeking the excesses that nature can create. Extreme natural beauty is evident throughout the state, however there may be no better example of Mother Nature’s full repertoire than Kootenai County. Covering 1,300 square miles Kootenai County is a veritable picture book of mountains, lakes, forests and rivers.

Incorporated in 1864 and named after the Kutenai Indians who inhabited the area, the word Kootenai means Water People and is a great description of the area. The county seat of Coeur d'Alene is the best known of all the towns in the area and this 35,000 resident town is a slide show of all things Kootenai. Built around Lake Coeur d'Alene, the town is a marvel to live in.

As you may expect from a county steeped in nature there is much in the way of outdoor adventure. With three ski resorts close by, the biggest of which is Silver Mountain; 2 peaks, 50 runs and 2,200 ft above ground, plus multiple lakes and mountains there is not much you can’t do here. Silver wood theme park is also in the county and features over 60 rides and attractions.

As diverse a property market as anywhere in the country exists in Kootenai County, Idaho offering anything from mountain top or waterfront houses, condominiums, investment property and retirement homes. Prices are reasonable and average in the $120,000 range.
