Alsip is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. It is a suburb of Chicago, being only 12 miles from Chicago's downtown core. Alsip was incorporated by local farmers in 1927, who wanted to prevent the land from being engulfed by the expansion of large cemeteries into the area. From these beginnings, the village grew to its current population of approximately 22,000 people.
