Just recently reopening of Arlington park provided an economic shot in the arm for the Chicagoland Area with additional tourism, thousands of new full- and part-time jobs as well as the professional services necessary to refurbish the facilities and backstretch. Also the Racing Board approved Arlington's plan to create a two-month summer racing festival that will emphasize the return of world-class racing to Illinois and add to the tourism base for Illinois and the northwest suburbs.

Arlington Heights' downtown became a retail hub too and is community gathering place ever since the the railroad tracks were laid here in the mid 1800s. It has been thriving ever since.
