The Village of Skokie is located in Cook County, Illinois. It is a suburb of Chicago, located 16 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 12 miles east of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Skokie has an estimated population of 60,000 residents.

Skokie has a strong local economy. Many companies are attracted to Skokie because of its close proximity to major markets and transportation, and also because of the tax breaks afforded to business. As a result, Skokie combination of industrial activity, retail sales and business services is unparalleled in suburban Chicago.

The Village of Skokie has a rich cultural heritage as well. The first settlers were immigrants, primarily from Germany and Luxembourg. Today Skokie is noted for its prominent Jewish community. Each year in May, the Skokie Festival of Cultures celebrates the heritage of the residents of Skokie. Flags from participating Festival of Culture's members are on display throughout the year at the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park.

In the past, Chicago Magazine has placed the Village of Skokie first in its livability rating of suburbs with mid to upper-range housing values, praising the Village's schools, parks, municipal services and entertainment options.
