The City of East Chicago is located in Lake County, Indiana. Situated on Lake Michigan, and about 30 miles southeast of Chicago, the population of East Chicago is approximately 34,000 people.

During the peak of the great Industrial Revolution, East Chicago was known as the most industrialized municipality and America’s ultimate melting pot where four out of five of its citizens were foreign-born. Today, East Chicago's economy remains steady, as the city provides outstanding incentives for business to expand existing facilities, or locate new operations here.

The city prides itself on the quality education it supplies for its residents. East Chicago is home to 7 elementary schools, 2 junior high schools, 2 high schools, and 3 parochial schools. The city is served by three major higher institutions of learning - Calumet College of St. Joseph, Hammond, and Purdue University Calumet.

The city's close proximity to Lake Michigan allows for plenty of aquatic recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. The city also maintains 20 public parks on more than 200 acres. There is also one golf course in the city.

East Chicago, like many cities and towns, is made up of unique neighborhoods, each with it's own distinct characteristics and needs - from Roxana on the south side, to the Marktown Historic District on the north side.
