In the heart of Hoosier Land, otherwise known as the state of Indiana, the community of Elwood sparkles like a majestic Camelot, where the men are gallant, the women are noble, and the children have a future as bright as this small little city with a heart of gold.

Located in the northwestern corner of Madison County, the city of Elwood is part of the Anderson Metropolitan Area, and the downtown core of Anderson is 15 miles southeast. In Elmwood and Anderson, residents find an abundance of work opportunities and a booming location to conduct business. For further opportunities, one only needs to make their ways to the state capitol of Indianapolis, just 35 miles south, or the City of Muncie, located 25 miles to the east.

Elwood acquired its name from Homer Elwood Frazier, the son of one of the first settlers of this community. The community was established first in 1853 and incorporated a couple of years later as the Town of Quincy. The name changed to Elwood in 1869. Elwood’s growth has reflected the growth of the railways. The city is situated on the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis Railroad, which attracted a lot of businesses to the area.

Today, Elwood continues to flourish. The city nurtures a strong community spirit and civic pride that has allowed residents to live harmoniously. One of the safest cities in all of Indiana, Elwood is the perfect place for families.
