Lawrence Real Estate Information The City of Lawrence is located in Marion County, in the state of Indiana. The city is situated 12 miles northeast of Indianapolis, and has a population of approximately 40,000 people. Lawrence was incorporated as a city in 1960.
In 1969, Fort Benjamin Harrison, which is the national finance center for the U.S. Army, was annexed into Lawrence. The fort encompasses 2,501 acres and is the city's largest employer. The fort closed down in 1995, and now plans are in the works of developing the fort for a new state park, a historic residential district, and new commercial and industrial growth opportunities. While the community will miss the army presence at the fort, it is very excited about the tremendous possibilities afforded in the reuse plan.
The city promotes active living, and helps supports that mentality with eight public parks and a vast variety of sports and recreational programs for children to seniors. One of the parks in the Lawrence system is located in the midst of historic Fall Creek Valley near an old Indian hunting grounds, and includes a nature center. Lawrence's Soccerplex is a premiere soccer facility with 21 fields, concession stand, and parking for over a 1,000 people.
The city of Lawrence is committed to a family friendly, vibrant and a safe city, boasting great parks, top educational opportunities, and affordable housing choices and exciting estates.
