The land which today contains Kosciusko County and the City of Warsaw was purchased from the Potawatomi Indians by the U.S. Government in 1832. The county was named in honor of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, Polish national hero and aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the American Revolution.
