Founded in 1834 by a group of Quakers originating from North Carolina led by Asa Bales, Westfield holds a special place in American History. The town is believed to be one of the stops of the Underground Railroad, which assisted slaves making their way to the north and Canada to escape the brutality of the south. Today, Westfield remains progressive and a considerable portion of its citizens are a socially-conscious collective.
