When Samuel Snyder first built a log cabin in the plains of central Iowa, he would not know that his cabin would become a historical monument of sorts. Today, that log cabin is credited as being the first building in the thriving City of Norwalk, which was named after the city of the same name in the state of Connecticut.

Norwalk is a rapidly growing community located in Warren County. Norwalk is on the outskirts of the Greater Des Moines Metropolitan Area, with the heart of the state's capitol being about 14 miles north of the city. The city is has experienced a population surge over the past few years with a growth of 13-percent. Today, Norwalk's population numbers approximately 8,000 people.

Norwalk's growth is largely attributed to significant economic and industrial development and expansion. There are many sites available for companies to locate and relocate too, and these spots are being snapped up due to the city's closeness to Des Moines and many benefits and incentives bestowed upon businesses.

Norwalk is home to an exceptional school district maintaining four middle/elementary schools and one high school. For higher education, Drake University and Des Moines Community College are located nearby in the state capitol.
