Corbin Real Estate Information There are so many things and tidbits of information that make Corbin one of the most fascinating communities in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. Located in southeastern Kentucky, the city of Corbin is situated along the I-75, and is officially part of Whitley County, although some of the city lies within the boundaries of Laurel and Knox Counties. The population of Corbin currently stands at approximately 8,500 people.
Here are some interesting things about Corbin. The city is home to the impressive Cumberland Falls, located at the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, which is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest. The large falls has often been called “Little Niagara”, and has the unique characteristic of producing the only “moonbow” (yes a rainbow viewed at night) in the entire Western Hemisphere.
Cumberland also is the birthplace of some prominent Americans including the Reverend James Corbin, whom the city is named for, and Hall of Fame football player, George McAfee. But Corbin’s most recognized son is a household name known all around the world – a modern day renaissance man who has been an insurance salesman, amateur doctor and lawyer, fireman, and pioneer and innovator of the billion-dollar fast food industry, Colonel Harlan Sanders, creator of Kentucky Fried Chicken. In fact, his original KFC in Harlan has been made into a museum (where you can still order food), and is placed in the National Register of Historic Places.
