Located in northern Kentucky on the south side of the Ohio River is the charming city of Fort Mitchell. Part of Kenton County, Kentucky, Fort Mitchell is also part of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Area, where the downtown core of Cincinnati is only 5 miles away to the north, while the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport is 4 miles away. Named after Major General Ormsby McKnight Mitchell, a general in the Union Army, the site of the city was chosen for construction of a fort to defend Cincinnati against Confederate forces during the Civil War. Cincinnati was extremely important because of its economic significance - it was the largest meat-packing, manufacturing, and river harbor city in this part of the nation. Fort Mitchell’s rich history can be documented and viewed at the Vent Haven Museum.

Primarily a bedroom commuter community for Cincinnati, many residents find Fort Mitchell an ideal location because it is really close to big city amenities, but far away enough where you have your own peace and quiet away from the constant hustle and bustle of the city. Fort Mitchell does have some fine dining and retail areas and a small number of buildings for commercial purposes. Fort Mitchell is recognized for having one of the finest school districts in the Cincinnati area.
