Lawrenceburg Real Estate Information In the year 2000, Lawrenceburg earned some national notoriety as the place of a spectacularly devastating industrial accident. There, the famous Wild Turkey Bourbon distillery caught fire and an explosion toppled over one of the walls of the seven-story warehouse facility. This led to thousands of barrels of aged bourbon catching fire and falling into the Kentucky River – it was quite a site that led to the biggest fish kill in Kentucky’s history. Since, the distillery and city has taken proper precautions so that such a disaster will never happen again.
The community has gotten past that and today, it continues to thrive. Lawrenceburg is a quaint American city located near the western banks of the Kentucky River in Kentucky’s famous Bluegrass Region. The city is part of Anderson County, where it serves as county seat. Lawrenceburg has an estimated population of 9,500 people.
Home to a storied history and heritage, Lawrenceburg was named after an early tavern owner, William Lawrence. Early construction of the area’s southern Railroad and Young's High Bridge over the Kentucky River enabled the distillery industry to grow in Lawrenceburg, with distinguished institutions, Wild Turkey and Four Roses Distillery being based here. Historical attractions celebrating Lawrenceburg’s history include the Confederate Monument in Lawrenceburg, Crossfield R. H. House, Goodnight Bridge Archeological Site, Lawrenceburg Commercial Historic District.
