Situated in the southwestern corner of the “Bluegrass State” of Kentucky is the community of Mayfield. Mayfield is located in Graves County where it also serves as the county seat. Perhaps you have caught a glimpse of the beauty of Mayfield as it was the filming location for the 1989 major motion picture, “In Country” directed by the legendary Norman Jewison and starring Bruce Willis. The movie was based on the book written by Mayfield’s most famous daughter, Bobbi Ann Mason.

There is no shortage of history here in this small rural community. Mayfield is centered in the Jackson Purchase Area. This area was established when former U.S. President Andrew Jackson’s administration acquired a very large tract of land from the Chickasaw Indians that spanned from the Mississippi River to the Tennessee River. Mayfield also played a prominent role in the Civil War and is the home to a Confederate Memorial.

Although Mayfield has a relative estimated population of 10,000 people, there is no shortage of things to do here. For recreation, Mayfield is about 10 miles west from the stunning Land Between Lakes National Recreational Area, that plays host to the Kentucky Dam State Park and Kentucky Lake State Resort Park. This beautiful area is an enchanting place to camp, hike, fish, hunt, or just have a picnic. Other attractions include Village Green Golf Course, Ice House Museum, and the campus activities of Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College.
