Metairie, Lousiana is a curious town like many found in New Orleans. Without a city corporation, mayore, or government, it exists as part of the Jefferson Parish due to its French roots. It did exist as a city for about 17 years in order for gas lines to be laid into the city. However, 18 months after the gas lines were completed the city was dissolved and returned to the Jefferson Parish.

About 160,000 people live in Metairie, and are part of the Great New Orleans metropolitan area. Since there's no government, there are no city taxes either!

Key attractions in the Metairie area include Old Metairie, which is a picturesque district with shops, professional offices, and boutique shopping. Nearby, the Lakeside Shopping Center is one of the State's oldest and biggest shoping malls located right in the heart of mdoern Metairie. New growth in the "Fat City" district of Metairie has spurred a number of mixed-commercial developments, shopping centers, night clubs, and entertainment institutions.

Situated ideally between the bustle of New Orleans and the New Orleans' Armstrong International Airport in nearby Kenner city. Many travelers coming through Metairie from the airport to New Orleans often stop in beautiful Metairie for a taste of old French living.
