Located in central Maine’s Kennebec County, Winslow is situated on the eastern bank of the Kennebec River directly across the river from the town of Waterville. The town has an estimated population of 8,500 people, and is positioned about 20 miles north from the city of Augusta.

With an illustrious history, human habitation in Winslow has been dated as far back as 12,000 years where Native American tribes would make settle in the area as part of their migration. Their heritage is celebrated annually with the town’s Voices of Kennebec Festival and the First Light Native American Festival in nearby Athens. European settlement was established in the early 18th century around protective Fort Halifax, one of the oldest forts in America. Today, the area is commemorated as the Fort Halifax State Historic Site.
