The City of Cumberland, Maryland, is a bit off-kilter. Perhaps it is the high mountain air or something, but residents can't get over how much they love their city! Established in 1787, some form of settlement had always been in the area dating into the B.C. era! It's no surprise taht the spot has been popular for living for over 2,000 years... just take one good look at the surroundings and all you see is a land full of greenery, foliage, and life.

While Cumberland was once a small European settlement, the introduction of the National Road paved the way for traffic heading to the west. Later, railroads and even a canal would all stop at the town.

Despite the heavy loss of industry in the 20th century, Cumberland has bounced back with a booming tourism industry and a brand new technology industry. Companies can't resist Cumberland's great quality of life!

The city is home to some 24,000 people in a mountainous region with an average elevation of 950 feet. The area is lush with forest and fauna as there is an average of 37 inches rain per year and another 34 inches of snow. Cumberland enjoys a certain sense of isolation in the trees, with no less than 100 miles to the next major cities (Baltimore, Washington DC, and PIttsburgh).
