Chicopee Real Estate Information Chicopee, Massachusetts, is situated at the junction of the Massachusetts Turnpike and Insterstate route 91. It is a diverse urban community that is also home to the Westover Air Force Base. The city's history extends to the late 19th Century. Many buildings from that era still stand today, and have been converted from abandoned industrial buildings to a variety of mixed-use modern facilities.
Transportation is abundant in the Chicopee region. There are two airports in the region, the Boston and Main Railroad, in addition to frequent long-distance and local bus service. Taking advantage of the transportation is a number of strong industries in manufacturing sports goods, textiles, beverages, paper, office supplies, and even the eastern edition of the Wall Street Journal. Goods flowing out of Chicopee reach neighboring states of New York and Connecticut.
The major employer of the region is the Westover Air Force Base. It employes some 1000 locals and houses close to 2500 air reservists of the 439th Military Airlift Wing. Many former military homes will soon be converted to market and affordable housing.
The historic Chicopee Center district is home to grand estates. A historic shad run on both the Connecticut and Chicopee Rivers draw thousands of avid fisherman each spring. The Great New England Air Show draws over 700,000 visitors to Westover.
