Lexington, Massachusetts, has a rich history dating back to 1642. The town was once known as Cambridge Farms when it was first settled. Farmers were originally attracted to the region by vast hay fields, great farming acreage, and tons of land speculation. A parish was established in 1691 and the town was incorporated in 1713.

In April 1775, Lexington earned its place in history as the midnight ride of Paul Revere and William Dawes led the Lexington Minute Men into a confrontation with a British Regular Army unit in the historic battle of Green. Each year, the Patriots Day celebreation pays tribute to that fateful event that gave birth to American Independence.

Until 1846 Lexington was mainly a quiet farming town, but that's when a rail spur reached the town from Boston. After the Civil War, many professionals moved into luxury Victorian homes within the Lexington town limits. The town served both as a residential base for commuters and as a summer resort town with a healthy and invigorating atmosphere. Despite these developments, a new wave of immigrants helped to continue the role of farming in the region to the present day.

After WWII, route 128 was constructed through Lexington, allowing the the residential and commercial base to expand dramatically. Today, this town of some 30,000 is home to the academic-elite and high-tech associates alike.
