Marblehead Real Estate Information Marblehead, Massacusetts, is a small town on the north shore of Massachusetts near the infamous Salem. It is a coastal town with a strong 375-year tradition in the sailing arts. Fisherman, lofty mariners, merchants, ship-builders, and shipyards are all major professions in Marblehead.
Founded in 1629 as a settlement for a private fishing corporation, a report to the King of England written in 1660 cited Marblehead as the best place for fishing in New England. Throughotu the next 200 years, Marblehead would blossom into a major shipbuilding industry that supplied many of the ships in New England.
The town positively flourished leading up to the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, the war of independence and subsequent embargoes and the war of 1812 exacted a heavy cost on the town, costs it would never quite recover from.
Regardless, residents pushed on toward new industries that would bring back some measure of prosperity. Today, Marblehead is a premiere tourist destination on the beautiful north shore about an hour north of Boston. It's known as the "Yachting Capital of America" and features a number of beautiful bed & breakfasts, fine restaurants, and glorious shoreline.
