Real Estate Methuen - MA
Methuen Real Estate Information

Methuen, Massachusetts, is a centrally located city in the Northeast United States. It's 27 miles south to Boston, 200 miles to New York City, and about 30 miles to Manchester, NH. Many goods travel through this city between the northern states and lower states. Currently, the population is at 44,000 people occupying 23 sq. miles.

Like most New England towns, Methuen is rich with history and culture. It was back in 1725 when Lt. Stephen Barker petitioned the town of Haverhill with the help of Governer Dummer. Thus, the town of Methuen was born in honor of Sir Paul Methuen, member of the King's Privy Council.

Later, in 1917, the town was given its city charter. Unfortunately, this charter was revoked under violates of the constitution of the Commonwealth until 1973 when a home-rule charter came into effect. Changes occured throughout the years until in 1993, voters decided on electing a Mayor.

The city has a long history of industrial growth. Starting with the Cotton Mills in the 1829s and leading up to increased manufacturing of hats and shoes, the entire Spicket River was dotted with historic industrial buildings.

IF you want a quiet small-town life within easy reach of major cities like Boston, then there's nothing wrong with Methuen!
