There are many towns named Springfield in the United States. So many, in fact, that the popular TV Show "The Simpsons" even named their town after it. The biggest and original Springfield is in Massachusetts.

Springfield has enjoyed a history of progress and economic success because of its prime location as New England's crossroads. Since early settler times, the Connecticut River has played a crucial role in moving goods throughout the region. Springfield is right between New York City and Boston, and also on the road between New York and Canada. Business and travelers pass through Springfield on a regular basis.

Since the 19th century, railroads have also played a big role in furthering Springfield's industrial success as printing, manufacturing, insurance, and finance industries moved in. As prosperity spread throughout the city, its education system was also strengthened.

There are some interesting things to do in this city. They recently received an NHL affiliate minor league team for the world-champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The city also hosts the Basketball Hall of Fame. Nestled away in the city is also the Dr. Seuss memorial.
