Ellsworth was founded in 1881 by Erwin A. Dean and his nephew, August Davis.
The village was incorporated in 1938, and is located at the North end of Ellsworth Lake on the upper chain of lakes.
This quiet little village has a nice park on the lake with a large campground. The village also is the home of the recently voted , best restaurant in Michigan.
