Jackson Real Estate Information The Wolverine State has been an important state within the history of America and many of its cities have some attachment to major events that shaped the country's development. One such Michigan city is Jackson, which is located and also the count seat of Jackson County.
According to the 2000 census, Jackson has a total population of 36,316. Originally settled by Horace Blackman of Tioga County, New York in July of 1829. Named in honour of Democratic president, Andrew Jackson, the city of Jackson would ironically be the birthplace of the modern Republican Party. On July 6, 1854, the Republican Party formally organized itself by holding its first convention in Jackson, launching one of America's most potent political parties.
On top of being the birthplace of the Republican Party, Jackson is home to one of the Appolo capsules which can be found at the Jackson Space Center. Additionally, Jackson is one of the few cities in the country still served by US 12, an older highway that runs from downtwon Detroit to Chicago.
