The city of St. Anthony has a long and interesting history. It is one of the few frontier towns that were named after a saint. But beyond that this dynamic community also has so much history. During its early years, St. Anthony was known for its hogs, vegetables, and flowers. This area was a major center for greenhouse operations. The New Brighton stockyards also supported numerous hog farms in the area. The east half of the Village was devoted to vegetable farming.

From that point on the city began booming. There was never any shortage of investment here and people from all over the country flocked here for the endless possibilities in investment. This of course included some great real estate investments.

The St. Anthony Shopping Center also enjoyed its own distinctions. Built in the early 1950's, it was the first strip mall in Minnesota. This shopping center was financed and owned by the Batista family of Cuban fame. The Batistas ruled Cuba until Fidel Castro gained power with the conclusion of that country's revolution.

Today the city is still booming. While the population is only around 8,000 people, it has been growing at a slow and steady pace. This bodes well for the economy and for the people who live here.
