Cape Girardeau Real Estate Information

The City of Cape Girardeau is the county seat of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. Located on a bit of land that extends into the Mississippi River, some say that this is the only city in the world on an inland waterway with a cape designation. The city was named after French trader, Jean Girardot, who established a trading post just north of the present-day city in 1733.

The city has a rich history from its finding as a trading post, to its rise in as a popular riverboat town, to the Civil War where General Ulysses Grant had used the town as his headquarters, to its current position as a regional hub for education, commerce, and medical care. The city with its large and ever-expanding retail complex, serve as evidence of their solid economic base.

The city has plenty to offer for its residents. The city's parks are impressive, including the Cape LaCroix Recreation Trail, an extensive walking and bicycling path that starts at the Osage Community Center and winds 5 miles to the Shawnee Park Sports Complex. Southeast Missouri State University provides higher education for more than 8,000 students in all disciplines.

Cape Girardeau is growing at a rapid rate as many people are drawn to its pleasant scenery, job opportunities, and historically charming neighborhoods. New housing subdivisions are being developed providing plenty of real estate opportunities.
