Joplin is a city in Missouri that has a uniquely central location. First of all, it's located near the intersection of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Next, each state's respective capital is just over 100 miles away. Major cities like Wichita, Springfield, and Tulsa are all within 50 miles. This makes Joplin an ideal crossroads for traffic in the region.

It received its name from the spring, creek, and valley that are located nearby. At the turn of the century, Joplin enjoyed trolley and rail service due to its role as the lead and zinc capital of the world. These industries died down after WWII, with the closing of the mines and a halt to population growth

Today, Joplin is the 4th largest metropolitan area in Missouri, and is home to many bars, hotels, and fine homes. This city of 45,000 has played a major role in the 'Four State' region and is a hub for newspapers, radio, and television stations.

Joplin is also known as the regional center for learning. The college of Physicians and Doctors was one of the original schools in the area. Today, three major colleges call Joplin their home.

Several major hospitals serve the city and the surrounding regio. It also has a great park system with a golf course, swimming pools, the world's largest Chert Glades, and Grand Falls (Missouri's biggest).
