The Garden State has had a long and involved relationship with the development of America. Historic cities dot the New Jersey landscape and the city of Belleville is no different.

Known as the Cherry Blossom Capital of America, Belleville is also one of the oldest cities in the country. Located in Essex County, Belleville stands on the west bank of the Passaic River in Essex County. The city obtained its name in 1797 after inhabitants of the Second River settlement decided to name their settlement after the french term for "beautiful town."

During its long history, Belleville was once a major American center of industry and manufacturing. However, in recent years, this New Jersey city has evolved into becoming a largely residential city that serves its residents with strong community spirit, fantastic local stores, and a commitment towards family values.

According to the 2000 census, Belleville has a total population of 35,928. Although it is predominantly residential, Belleville is also home to a national treasure. Branch Brook Park is the predominant site of an American display of Japanese cherry trees. Eclipsing the famed Tidal Basin collection in Washington D.C., this exhibit is a major tourist attraction and a part of Belleville that is loved by its residents.
