Bloomfield is another small college community on the fringe of the massive Newark-Jersey City-New York cosmopolitan/metropolitan area. The major thing in town is definitely the Bloomfield College (despite the small enrollment of 1500 students). Comprising a scant 5.3 square miles, this isn't a large city by any means, though it houses some 48,000 people.

Major employers in town are the Bloomfield College, health services, manufacturing, professional trades, retail trades, and finance. Most businesses in the area support the large network of students communting in and out every business day.

The interesting thing about Bloomfield College is that it's one of the few private, not-for-profit colleges for higher education in the area. In addition, there is a small school for hair design with an enrollment of only about 100 students.

Considering that Newark is 5 miles away while New York City is only 20, most entertainment venues and attractions are located outside the city. Luckily, there are so many roads and transportation options to choose from that it's not a major ordeal to get to where you're going.

Bloomfield is a safe residential base for commuters in the great New York/New Jersey region. Consider living here if you want to enjoy a small-town feel with big city neighbors.
