Jersey Real Estate Information Jersey City, located in New Jersey, is the second largest city in the State with 240,000 people. Located on the banks of the Hudson River, its neighbor across the water is New York City. Jersey City is a major industrial zone second only to Newark in the State of New Jersey.
Increasing its importance as a transport hub, an 11-mile waterfront and extensive rail conections make the city easily assessible to commercial and personal transport.
Heavy industries situated here include railroad shops, oil refineries, manufacturing plants, chemical plants, petroleum and elcetrical goods, textiles, and even cosmetics. Most of the companies situated here are actually departments related to commercial offices based in Manhattan. Many residents partake in the commute to New York City on a daily basis on one of the numerous bridges in the region.
Jersey City has recently undergone rapid improvements in the area of housing and shopping. Some sections of the city still remain abandoned and lifeless. However, Jersey City still boasts a diverse ethnic mix of Filipinos, Indians, and Hispanics.
Despite heavy political corruption some 30 years ago, Jersey City is experiencing something of a renaissance. Major developments along the waterfront and downtown have been fueled by a yuppy immigration from Manhattan.
