As one of the country's oldest states, New Jersey has a long and colorful history. As the Garden State's third largest city, Paterson has been the site of many events that have been influential on how America has evolved.

Named after William Paterson, the former New Jersey governor and signer of the American constituion, Paterson was founded by the Society for the Establishment of Useful Manufactures. This society was formed by American political icon Alexander Hamilton in 1791 and Paterson soon became the cradle of the American industrial revolution.

Once known as Silk City, Paterson continues to thrive in the contemporary day. Home to the Great Falls of the Passaic River, the second-higest large-volume falls on the East Coast, Paterson is the county seat of Passaic County.

Home at one point to such American luminaries as Italian American anarchist Gaetano Bresci, American beat poet Allen Ginsberg, and 1995 Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Frederick Reines, Paterson is widely considered one of the best cities to live in all of New Jersey.

Home to approximately 150,000 residents, Paterson is a major center of business in the Garden State. Additionally, Paterson is viewed as one of the safest cities on the East Coast and contains a number of fantastic neighbourhoods that have housed some of this country's greatest minds.
